First published in 1912, and then continuously from 1916-2016, the "Who's Who in Baseball" guide book was a reliable annual source for fans to get the scoop on Major League ballplayers. This venerable publication has long been a collector favorite, and as you would expect, the earliest editions command the highest prices.
Presented is the 1918 Who's Who in Baseball guide, with a photo of George Sisler on the front cover. The title page cites this one as the "Third Edition", however if you count the 1912 edition, the 1918 edition is actually the 4th of 102 published editions. Besides the illustrious cover subject, two other big factors come into play, this 1918 edition is rare in any grade; and in this particular case, the offered example is remarkably well-preserved. The spine is solid and tight, with moderately oxidized staples, corner wear is minor, and with deference to the date "1918" being written in pencil within the front cover title box, the covers are clean. The photo of Sisler is fairly distinct, the colors are reasonably bold, and though toned cream, the pages remain supple. All this adds up to a very respectable grade designation of (VG-EX), and if not for a small corner crease at bottom right, it would merit an EX rating.
