Read the Doug Harvey biography on SABR's website and you'll see Schmitty mentioned as "one of Harvey's favorite players." Which is saying something considering that Harvey umped for the likes of Mays, Banks, Clemente, Koufax, Gwynn, Seaver and Ryan! And nowhere is their kinship on finer display than in this Adirondack gamer bestowed upon Harvey by Schmidt himself. The 35", 31.9-oz. bat is dominated by its gorgeous blue-marker "9-10" inscription, "Doug / All my best to a great baseball man / P.S. 'I like a small strike zone' Mike Schmidt." What's more, it boasts outstanding use with many ball marks including stitch impressions, black-ink transfers and white leather scuffs. There's light pine tar on the handle, cleat marks throughout the barrel, and the legend's uniform number "20" notated on the knob. Best of all, it hails from the very year when Harvey umpired the NLCS that saw Schmidt hit a blazing .467 with 5 runs as the Phillies downed the Dodgers. Pure perfection, graded PSA/DNA GU 10. Full LOA from PSA/Taube. Auction LOA from JSA for autograph.
