Antique hunters make a fine catch, with this c.1910 Piedmont Tobacco folding chair, measuring approximately 16x18x31. One of the leading brands to have issued baseball tobacco cards more than a century ago, the Piedmont brand is proudly proclaimed by an identical advertising slogan on both sides of the enameled tin back panel, in bright white lettering on a cobalt blue field. Small dots of oxidation are noted at various points on the white lettering, however the paint integrity remains strong on both sides. Black stenciled "Piedmont Cigarettes" lettering on both vertical side rails shows moderate wear, but ample detail remains to clearly identify the words. The hinges, studs and nails bear an oxidized red-brown patina, though the seat and legs fold smoothly, and all the hardware is firmly attached. All the wood components remain sturdy, and overall this handsome chair stacks up as an excellent example, with abundant period appeal.
