An obscure issue takes the field, with this Riddell NFL helmet set of (26). Sized at 9 x 7-1/2", these scarce cardboard creations date from c.1970-1975, after the NFL-AFL merger, and prior to the league's 1976 expansion. All are printed with the Riddell brand name, at bottom over the end of the facemask, and all have the same patent number "2785406". The area between the facemask bars is formatted with punch-out sections, which are all intact, and condition averages a very pleasing (EX-MT to NM-MT). Seldom offered as a complete set, these vintage die cut cardboard helmets are an exciting find.
