In all of sport, nothing is more beautiful to behold than a thoroughbred racing down a track at breakneck speed toward the finish line. Only eleven of these magnificent animals in the “Sport of Kings” has ever won the Triple Crown of racing, and the offered Edward Leigh Chase lithograph features one, Whirlaway. Chase (d.1965) signed this wonderful 16x18 colored Finart Proof litho (LE #139) in pencil, grading ("7"). Whirlaway, winner of the 1941 Triple Crown, is posed on a track with his left side profiled. The litho is in a vintage, hand-crafted framed with leather inset (missing three corner pegs). The artist, Edward Leigh Chase was the grandfather of actor Chevy Chase and is quite famous in his own right as a 20th Century artist.
