Description

A promotional relic from the famous "Rumble in the Jungle," this felt pennant hails from then-heavyweight champion George Foreman's camp. Measuring just over 27" in length, this red gonfalon is accented by an appliqué silhouette of Africa. Flanking that detail are the combatants' names, with Foreman listed as "World Heavyweight Champ" and Muhammad Ali as "The People's Champ." Additionally, "Foreman For Champ" is printed, as these keepsakes were made to promote both fighters. Finally, "World Heavyweight Championship" and "October 29, 1974" are printed in gold-colored characters. The fight, incidentally, was held on October 30, with a 4:00 a.m. start to accommodate American television. This ring rarity is well preserved and shows very slight wear about the appliqué elements.
