While certain photo opportunities are once-in-a-lifetime chances, in the matter of posing with Babe Ruth, it was simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Always compliant with such requests, Ruth made temporary "celebrities" out of hundreds of otherwise obscure subjects, like the kids in the offered vintage photograph. Measuring slightly over 8-1/2 x 6-1/2", this black-and-white photo has a thin white border and depicts the unmistakable Ruth standing outdoors as part of a group shot with (10) youngsters. A vintage handwritten notation on the reverse reveals the gathering to be the "Big Bayou Baseball Club" is St. Petersburg, Florida sometime during 1927. The location, for one, is consistent with Ruth's whereabouts each spring, as St. Petersburg was the Yankees' spring training home from 1925 through 1942. The period photograph is affected by a series of faint creases (none of which impinge upon Ruth's likeness), (2) small border stains and previous mounting remnants on the reverse.
