Chicago publisher Grover Buxton annually issued Who's Who in Major League Baseball beginning in 1933. These (13) hardbound volumes include the first edition and subsequent volumes that date from 1935 to 1952. With covers and all pages intact, the books present (mostly) at the (EX) plateau, though the oversized (9 x 11-1/4") 1st edition (partially separated spine) and 1935 volume (writing on front cover) are lesser. More details on our website.

Enlisting local scribe Harold "Speed" Johnson to compile biographical content on each and every Major Leaguer, Chicago publisher Grover Buxton launched an annual baseball volume that was unprecedented in terms of up-to-date details and imagery. Aided by compliance the likes of which you'd never again see, the project came to fruition as White Sox and Cubs opponents filled out questionnaires and posed at makeshift studios at any of eight Chicago hotels. Between April 10 and May 25, 1933, photographer Jimmy Iovino compiled likenesses, including that of Babe Ruth, who readily donned his Sunday best at the Del Prado Hotel.

The offered vintage hardbound volumes represent a scarce library, if you will, of the publications collectibles. This lot includes:

1933 First Edition, 544 pages; (VG) with partial spine separation and fraying/bumps at corners
