Enlisting local scribe Harold "Speed" Johnson to compile biographical content on each and every Major Leaguer, Chicago publisher Grover Buxton launched an annual baseball volume that was unprecedented in terms of up-to-date details and imagery. Aided by compliance the likes of which you'd never again see, the project came to fruition as White Sox and Cubs opponents filled out questionnaires and posed at makeshift studios at any of eight Chicago hotels. Between April 10 and May 25, 1933, photographer Jimmy Iovino compiled likenesses, including that of Babe Ruth, who readily donned his Sunday best at the Del Prado Hotel.
