Vying to match the popularity of the era's tobacco-issued cardboard collectibles, silk premiums depicting a variety of subjects were available from 1912 through 1915 but met with little commercial success. Resultantly, of course, these fleeting and eye-appealing keepsakes are sought with more fervor today. The offered "Napoleon Bonaparte" example hails from the "S76" subset of (5). Measuring approximately 7x9, this incredibly smooth heirloom showcases a detailed likeness of the military icon on his horse, complete in his trademark pose with hand in waistcoat. Remarkably, the lustrous hues have retained every bit of their brilliance. Numbered "199" in the upper left corner, the keepsake presents beautifully with cream-colored borders intact and minimal fraying at the upper right corner.
