Here are (30) original news service and wire photographs that appeared in print media delivered to the front porches of millions. Ranging in size from approximately 6x8 to 9x7, these original black-and-white or sepia-toned photos depict diamond stalwarts of the 1930s through 1960s. The news service examples have appropriate stampings and original caption sheets adhered to the reverse. Vintage wire photos, meanwhile, have captions on the front. Highlights include (4) 1934 World Series news service photos, which include Tiger and Cardinal principals Dean, Gehringer, Goslin and Medwick. Additional 1930s photos include Durocher, (2) Rowe and T. Jackson (pictured with Giants teammates as they mourn the death of franchise icon John McGraw). Additionally, the lot includes (18) UPI wire telephotos depicting 1963 Chicago Cubs contests at Wrigley Field.
While expected signs of newsroom handling appear, conditions vary. Many are affected by unobtrusive creases, maintaining outstanding overall presentation quality. The 1934 sepia-toned Dean photo has sharp upper corner folds and paper loss on the lower right (none of these affecting the central likeness).
