Description



The offered pair of correspondence items showcases the signatures of (2) Washington Redskins staples. Composed on vintage team stationery, both are typewritten letters addressed to former "Skins running back Dick Poillon. Includes:

George Preston Marshall Signed Letter
Dated "December 19, 1942" (just six days after the Redskins had defeated unbeaten Chicago in the NFL title game), the letter has a celebratory theme as Marshall (d.1969) tells his running back (in part): "I am enclosing a check so that you may buy your mother a little Christmas present." In closing, Marshall's black-ink fountain pen scripting projects ("8-9") strength and clarity.

Turk Edwards Signed Letter
Dated June 21, 1948, the letter is addressed to Poillon and has content confirming receipt of his player contract and details regarding preparation for the upcoming season. At the conclusion, Edwards (d.1973) has signed ("Turk" only) in blue ink ("8" strength).
