A marvel to behold in motion or in a still image, Hall of Famer Ted Williams is depicted in these (3) 1940s or 1950s original news service photographs. Includes: 1946 Williams Shift Photo a 15-3/4 x 9-1/4" black-and-white photo of Williams at the plate in a 1946 contest against the Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park. Of note are the editorial markings (in black grease pencil) and vintage numerical decals adhered to player images to reveal their unusual positioning in skipper Lou Boudreau's "Williams Shift"; 1954 Wire Photo a 17x12 black-and-white photo with grease pencil editorial markings and original caption on the front. The image shows Williams at the plate in a May 16 doubleheader at Tiger Stadium. Williamsís 8-for-9 performance that day could not prevent a Tigers sweep of the BoSox; 1956 Original News Service Photograph a 13-7/8 x 11" black-and-white photo of Williams in a spring exhibition against the San Francisco Seals. Editorial markings appear on the image and borders.
Each of these photos shows signs of expected newsroom handling, which include editorial markings (on the front and reverse) and wrinkles/creases. Also, the actual newspaper image clipping for each of these is adhered to the reverse.
