Presented is an 1888 Cincinnati Red Stockings scorecard certain to trump period examples in terms of stunning preservation and resultant condition. Printed on thick stock and issued at the Queen City's "League Park" venue, this game day artifact folds out to reveal (4) two-sided panels whose center pieces feature scoring grids with pre-printed lineups for the host Red Stockings and visiting St. Louis Browns (that season's American Association champions). These grids have never been marked and list the likes of Cooperstown inductees Bid McPhee, Charles Comiskey and Tommy McCarthy. The front cover features an ornate design and a black-and-white likeness of Cincinnati shortstop Frank Fennelly. This image dates the item to one of three St. Louis visits (one in May and two in June), as Fennelly and his paltry .196 batting average were sold to Philadelphia in late May for $1,000. Elsewhere, ads on the item hawks local businesses and, of course, tobacco products. With very minimal wear (far less than expected) along the left spine, this vintage stadium-issued keepsake is sure to have nary a rival.
